What The Body Shop Promises for Drops of Youth Cream

The description is very close to reality. After using this cream skin WILL appear smoother and pores will look smaller due to the primer-like ingredient Dimethicone.

It has four moisturizing ingredients that hydrating enough for oily and combination skin. However, it will not give enough moisture to dry aging skin like mine.

  • When you apply Drops of Youth cream it goes on smoothly and absorbs
    quickly.
  • Youth cream provides nourishment (thank you to vitamin E and plant oils) and
    moisture to the skin.
  • The application gives you a velvety feel and you feel pampered.

The smell is soft and unique and will linger for a while after I apply Drops of Youth cream. It’s not irritating to me personally. But if you are sensitive to the smells, then this may not be a moisturizer for you.

Now let’s look at the ingredients

  1. It’s a water-based moisturizer.
  2. The second main ingredient after water is Dimethicone. It’s a very popular ingredient for a primer.  Dimethicone will give you the most luxurious soothing feel to the skin ever. It will feel like makeup primer going on your skin.

Also, Dimethicone has mattifying properties and is popular in skincare products for those with oily skin or large pores.

CAUTION: Prolonged exposure to Dimethicone can increase skin irritation, due to the coating property and because Dimethicone is listed as a possible skin and eye irritant. Those with sensitive or reactive skin may experience an allergic reaction or break out to Dimethicone.

Dimethicone is silicon and if you put liquid (water-based) foundation on top of it, it will clump up and make face look patchy.

  • As a third ingredient, we have Glycerine (BEST) that is very soothing and hydrating to the skin. Glycerin draws water from the air into the skin’s outer layer. It also forms a protective layer that helps prevent moisture loss and it’s compatible with all skin types, of all ages.

Because Drops of Youth Youth Cream is water-based it needs to be preserved. And The Body Shop happens to choose Alcohol Denat. (BAD) and Phenoxyethanol to do that. These two preservatives are considered to be “natural”.  However natural is still powerful and Alcohol Denat., can cause dryness, irritation, and breakouts. The other two preservatives are Disodium EDTA (GOOD), and Citric Acid (GOOD).

The cream is slightly scented and has 4 natural fragrance ingredients (Parfum, Linalool, Citronellol, and Limonene) that can be irritating to your skin.

Ingredient That Good for Aging and Mature Skin

is down on the list at less than 1% concentration. It’s not enough to provide significant long-lasting results for your skin.

Leontopodium Alpinum Callus Culture Extract (BEST) – Edelweiss is a plant extract whose constituents are capable of providing antioxidant and skin-soothing benefits for the skin. Have a natural skin-calming benefit, strengthens the skin’s barrier, and helps reduce signs of sensitivity.

Crithmum Maritimum Callus Culture Filtrate (BEST) – sea fennel stem cell extract contains a high consistency of antioxidants, which helps to support the skin’s collagen production.

Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil (BEST) – Babassu Acid and Sodium Babassuate occlusive non-fragrant nut oil that smooths and softens skin as well as being a good antioxidant.

In addition to Glycerine and Dimethicone, I see Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil and Hydrogenated Polyisobutene Oil another good moisturizer for your skin and super nourishing.

Overall nice hydrating cream that has some antioxidant ingredients.

Cream texture enhancers and oil-in-water thickeners are; Nylon-66 (GOOD), Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer (creates gel-like texture), Cetyl Alcohol (GOOD), Glyceryl Stearate (GOOD), Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer (GOOD), Myristyl Alcohol (GOOD), Stearyl Alcohol (GOOD) and Xanthan Gum (GOOD).
They are responsible for how cream seats on your skin and soaks in.
