Step-by-Step Morning Skincare Routine 2020 for Mature Skin

Today I am sharing my entire morning skincare routine 2020,  Step-by-Step.

When I first started looking into doing something for my aging skin 5 years ago. I started to watch other skincare routines on YouTube. I wanted to find out what other people are using, why they are using it, and how they were using it.

So, I am going to share my entire Morning Skincare Routine with you today.

I want to start by telling a little bit about myself and certain skin goals I have RIGHT now.

I want to talk about myself a little bit. I am 53 years old right now. I was born with dry and prone to eczema skin. I always used face moisturizer, whatever was on sale. Even dollar store cream.

I have used sunscreen regularly for the last 23 years. Which is the main reason, why I don’t have deep wrinkles or that many fine lines around my eyes?

Maybe 5 years ago or so I started to see the first signs of aging. You know age spots, fine lines, and etc. and started to look into doing something more for my aging skin.

I started to watch YouTube videos with other skincare routines.

I wanted to find out what other people are using, why they are using it, and how they were using it.

I have certain goals I want to achieve with my skin. Right now it’s targeted toward improving skin elasticity, maintaining and hopefully improving skin barrier, and reducing skin redness.

I don’t mind wrinkles or age spots that much.

If you have similar skin type, and skincare goals then watch my video to save time or continue to read article.

Skincare routine I am about to share with you giving me the best results. In terms of moisture to my skin and minimizing skin irritation.

Each product in my advanced morning routine plays an important role in achieving the skin I want to see! AND IT’s BUDGET FRIENDLY.

Now, I am not a dermatologist and not a doctor, I am just sharing my experience.

And now without further ado let’s move on to my Morning Skincare Routine.

Morning Skincare Routine 2020

my in depth 6 steps morning routine for mature skin

It may seem like a lot of steps and products and may feel overwhelming, but I will take you through all of them and show you the correct way to apply them.

STEP 1: Washing Face

So let’s start with washing your face.

The goal here to have a freshly clean face ready for applying other products. I use just water.

If you feel that you need a cleanser, then use a gentle, soap-free moisturizing cleanser that will help you to remove debris and oils that appear on the skin while you sleep.

After you wash your face PAT YOUR SKIN DRY. And make sure your skin still feels damp before moving on to other products.

STEP 2: Leave-on Exfoliate

leave-in exfoliate excelent for mature dry sencitive skin

Then I will apply LEAVE-ON EXFOLIANT

I use Lactic Acid 10% with Hyaluronic Acid from The Ordinary.  $10.00

It’s the most gentle live on exfoliant and suitable for sensitive skin.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) such as glycolic or lactic acids gently removes build-up dead skin cells from the surface layers of the skin, providing a smoother, less wrinkled appearance. It also reduces skin discolorations and aids your skin in producing collagen.

It will make your skin more sensitive to the sun and could be irritating.

It’s actually a must-have in my routine. Or some may say my holy grail product.

  • The Ordinary Lactic Acid has a high-strength 10 percent lactic acid exfoliator with calming ingredient Tasmanian pepper-berry.
  • It has an acidic pH of 3.60-3.80 the same as vitamin C.

I think this is a better choice than glycolic acid for sensitive skin, but again, like all AHAs, IT WILL MAKE YOUR SKIN MORE SENSITIVE TO THE SUN AND COULD BE IRRITATING.

I do one full drop on my hand and spread it all over my face and décolletage. I avoid such areas as around my eyes or my neck, where the skin is thinner and more sensitive. (watch the video above)

STEP 3: Hydrating Essence

I use two layers of hydration in my morning skincare routine 2020. Hydrating essence, I use Cosrx advanced snail 96 mucin power essence $30.00 from YESSTYLE

Snail mucin provides a similar effect as a combination of Hyaluronic acid and copper peptide would.

hydrating mucin 96 essence

It will help your skin to

  • retain moisture stimulate collagen production
  • reduce wrinkles
  • sun damage
  • hyper-pigmentation
  • improve skin elasticity, density, and firmness

I use this essence because it has skin-repairing ingredients and hydrates and replenishes my skin surface. It reduces redness and dry patches on my skin.

I make sure it soaks into my skin before I move on to my serum.

For my skin it takes maybe 5 – 10 seconds.

For products that have this gel consistency, it’s better to pat them on your face. It helps your skin to absorb the product and prevent the “pilling” side effect.

STEP 4: Serum

Buffet the Ordinary

It’s also extremely affordable and even with frequent use a bottle lasts me for almost two months.

Buffet serum has

  • five different peptide complexes in a base of amino acids, hyaluronic acid, and probiotics.
  • Matrixyl 3000 is proven to stimulate collagen production (source), but its action has been compared to TGF-B1, an inflammatory scar-forming protein (source).
  • Syn-Ake and Agirelox (a newer version of Argireline) help relax the muscular contractions that contribute to dynamic wrinkles and have been compared to Botox.

They also interact with other ingredients—the brand advises not to use this formula in the same routine as acids, L-ascorbic acid, or ethyl ascorbic acid.

Personally, I think vitamin C is a better choice as a more proven anti-aging ingredient! But I didn’t find an affordable version that doesn’t irritate my skin yet.

I am going to test homemade vitamin C soon and let you know the results.

STEP 5: CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion $15.00

Time to moisturize!

My skin is dry, so I use rich moisturizer in the morning as well as in the evening.

CeraVe PM Moisturizin lotion

It feels extremely lightweight but is hydrating enough even for my dry skin. I love that it contains clinically effective quality of niacinamide and multiple ceramides. Which are known to repair the skin barrier? CeraVe also has silicone in it which helps to form a barrier on top of your skin and prevent moisture from evaporating.

If you need an additional skin oil for increased moisture, pat on your skin oil over on top of your moisturizer. This will create a seal over all of the skincare products you just applied so that they can really sink in.

STEP 6: Ombrelle SPF 60 Tinted 100% Mineral Sunscreen

Ombrelle SPF 60 Tinted 100% Mineral Sunscreen

Always, always wear SPF! Day or night, summer or winter, your skin can be damaged from the sun.

It gives my face a healthy color and radiant finish. Tint has a gray undertone, which suits my complexion. I have been using this on my face for years. It is unscented, lightweight, and sheer.  Absorb fast into my skin and provides this beautiful natural glow.

The main ingredient for sun protection is 15% Titanium Dioxide which protects from UVA and UVB sun rays.

For a more natural look when I don’t go to work, I use this product on its own (no foundation), and on other days I would pair it with my favorite foundation It Cosmetics CC cream.

One important thing to remember with this product is to shake it well before use.

I KNOW ?‍♀️

It took me a long time to show you how I use each product and what product does for my skin. But in reality, it takes only a couple of minutes to apply in the morning.
