Imagine writing to your future self 5 years from now — what would you say? What kind of person would you be? What goals would you want to have achieved? Not only is it mind-boggling, but it gets you thinking about your goals 5 years from now.

As you gather your thoughts and write a letter to your future self, you will start to think about the actions you should take now to realize them in your expected time frame.

I suggest starting with 5 years or less.

It’s just easier.

Dear self, “Don’t ever wait for another person to make your life better, that’s your job. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and take charge of your life. Nobody will save you; but you can, if you are willing to take the steps.” – Sylvester McNutt III

If you research “What to write future self” results will come up with suggestions about career, marriage, and having children.

I am 54 years old now and done it all – was married (not planning on doing it again), my kids already grown, and working for somebody getting harder with age. I would like to have grandchildren, but that is not up to me.

Life is so unpredictable, just look what 2020 brought to us, who would have thought. In the meantime, I want to do something today that my future self will thank me for.

When thinking about setting goals think about the quality of life you want to have, not a concrete number or a time of achievement.

The best way to write your goals down or make an inspiration board and put it in a visible place. I created an image (1920×1080) in Canva and saved it as my desktop wallpaper, so I can look at it every day.

It helps to eat that salad you know.

Being over 50 gives you a different perspective on life. I don’t have the need to prove myself anymore. I also spent a lot of time in life worrying about stuff that never happened and if it did – it wasn’t the end of the world.

Age gives you an amazing perspective about life. You discover that you will survive. That there will be another day to try something again. That you are never too old to dream a new dream. And that you can adapt to almost anything if you want to if you have health.
