Are you like me over 50 and constantly thinking about how to make extra money on the side to pay my bills and preferably without too much effort?
I am writing this article during the COVID-19 outbreak. It’s already financially affected so many people and I am afraid it will continue to do.
It’s more important than ever to have multiple strings of income to survive.
If you need cash to pay off bills and you have a spear time you CAN make some extra money.
First and foremost, decide how much time every day you can dedicate to make extra money.

Below I’ve put together a few ways you can make extra money on the side if you are over 50. Many of them I or someone I know tried and succeeded.
These are my recommendations and may not work for everybody. The best way to find out is to try.
What is a Side Hustle?
A side hustle is a way to fulfill a passion, work on a hobby or bring extra income helping others.
True WEALTH and FREEDOM come from having multiple sources of income and side hustles are perfect for this!

1// Landscaping
Picking weeds and the clear yard is a dream job if you love it and have a healthy body. Start by asking your friends if they need your help or people they know. It’s a seasonal job and great for teachers, that have long summer vacations.

2// Child Care
If you are at home the whole day, you can look after children before and after school. It will be easier if you look after 2-3 kids of the same age. They mostly entertain each other.
Things to consider: For smaller children, you will need to baby proof your house.
You can find clients through Wee Watch, word of mouth or posting an advertisement on the mailbox in your neighborhood and at school.
When my children were small, I earned a family leaving this way.
Tip: Easy to start, immediate pay, may need an initial investment, you can not control your hours.
3// Sell your new or used items
You can sell your new or used items through a garage sale, eBay, or Cash Converter stores. It’s a place where you will be giving INSTANT CASH for the new or gently used items.

4// Focus groups or University research
If you leave in a big city with University, just check the University website. It’s an easy way to earn $100 by giving your opinion.

5// Rent out your driveway
If you own parking space in your building or home, you can rent it out. I was able to earn $35 per month renting out my driveway to a neighbor. Check advertisements on Kijiji or Craigslist for prices in your area.
Things to consider: Someone’s car may leak oil on your driveway, and you may lose parking space for your guests.

6// Room rental
You can rent a room on a permanent basis or temporarily through Airbnb. I rented the basement in the past and it’s not something that I plan to do again it’s a great way to earn your income.

7// Male or Female companion for seniors
There are lots of people searching for someone to look after fraying parents while they at work, especially if they don’t speak English. The best way to find these opportunities through your church. In most cases you don’t have to do much, however, you must have plenty of free time.

8// Party tent rental
It’s a great weekend side hassle. Many people want to celebrate a wedding, birthdays or anniversaries in their own back yard. Not only do they hire catering, but they also need tents, chairs, tables and maybe heating lamps. If you have some money to invest in big tents, chairs, and tables it’s a nice side hassle for a family.
You will need a place to store it, a vehicle to bring it to the event, mussels to set it up and dismantle. My recommendation to invest in more expensive sturdy tents or you risk losing them in a storm.

You never know what you can find to make extra money, maybe you just the right person for some odd job.
10// Become an Uber driver

My suggestion to always keep a garbage bag handy in case someone will through up in your car. Just saying. ?

11// Help people fix things around their house
In my townhouse complex, we have John (not his real name) who does odd handymen jobs. He is retired and it’s his part-time income. He works on his own schedule during wormer month by painting garage doors, changing doorknobs, and window caulking just to name a few.
You will need to have a set of tools to do this job and of course some experience. You can find this type of job by contacting property managers.

12// Clean homes
It’s a good way to earn income, especially if you love to clean! You don’t need to have a car or supplies to do the cleaning. The owner of the house can provide you all you need. You can advertise your services on Kijiji or Craigslist.

It’s easier to find a part-time job during the holidays. The retail store tends to hire students for part-time jobs.

How Can a 50 Year Old Make Extra Money Online
I am always on the lookout for opportunities to make extra money online. You can work from the comfort of your home and usually on your own schedule.
14// Test website
This is a relatively new way to make money online. You can test other people’s websites for usability. You can get paid $10 up to $60 on UserTesting.com for each website you tested. There lots of sites to test for the US market, but if you live in another country, you better try something else.
After signing up I received an invitation to test within a month. I had to log in to the website and pretend to buy a T-shirt in size medium within a certain amount of time. I had to tell/record my thoughts along the way. Basically, the owner of the site what to know if it’s easy to navigate, to find help if all buttons are visible, and so on. When you first signup, you will go through the approval stage.
Tip: You can not control the amount of work. You may receive one invitation to a test a month, immediate pay, teat must be done before a deadline. No skills require.
15// uTest
uTest is different from UserTesting.com. You will need some knowledge of software testing, but don’t get discouraged uTest to provide free classes. You must find errors in software (call bugs) and report them. You are paid $3 – $10 for each qualified bug you find.
Tip: You can not control the amount of work. You may receive one invitation to a test cycle a month, immediate pay, teat must be done before a deadline, usually its withing few hours. You will need to learn a lot of new skills.
16// Take a survey.
The idea is that you can fill the survey while watching your favorite TV show.
Not only does filling up the survey boring, but you also can not enjoy shows while doing it. After trying Swagbucks for 3 days I earned $0 dollars, I gave up.

Maybe there is a magic trick to it, and I don’t know it. Or people earn affiliate income by promoting these links not sure.

Swagbucks, American Consumer Opinion, and Prize Rebel. They’re free to join and free to use! You get paid to answer surveys and to test products. Try to sign up for as many as you can as that way you can receive the most surveys and make the most money.
17// Online business
It can be starting a blog, freelance writing, social media manager, virtual assistant, or e-book writer.
Just remember you will need to put some investment in online business and don’t forget money doesn’t come fast and for some, they never see a penny.
Tip: It may take a year or two before you see a dime. Usually need some upfront and monthly investments. You will need to learn a lot of new skills.
