Midlife blogging: Am I too old to start a blog?
I want to start a blog. Am I too old to start a blog? Am I too late and blogging is dead? I bet if you are in your midlife, you look at all these blogs of 20-somethings with their feed perfectly curated. And you feel that’s not who I am. Is there space for people my age?

So, let’s discuss.
Am I Too Old to Start a Blog and Is It Too Late?
Honestly, the only person who cares how old you are is you.
No way you are too old!
You can start anything if you have a passion, a vision, and the drive for it. Blogging is a great way to be creative, share your thoughts, and maybe make a bit of money too (if that’s what your goal is). The only time it is late is when you are no longer on this planet.
Writing is one of those ageless crafts. Young kids can write stories and elders can still publish books.
The most common reason that so many midlife women think about blogging but don’t ever start is fear. Fear can get in the way and stop you in a variety of ways.
Three Big Fears That Stop You
1. Fear of technology
Not knowing where to start, or how to set up the website.
SOLUTION: Lyricalhost.com has a lot of helpful articles.
2. Fear that no one is going to read your blog
SOLUTION: Just write for yourself. It’s very therapeutic to express yourself through writing.
3. Fear that somebody will read your blog
This fear stops even more than the first two. To get out there and say I have a voice and I am worth listening to and reading. Blogging is an incredible opening journey.
Unless you go out there and share your blog, nobody will know about it. You can have a fairly big blog without people finding out it even exists. The truth is you must work hard to be found.
SOLUTION: Start a blog, write content, and start slowly sharing it. One platform at a time.
As for me, I am constantly going back and force between fears 2 and 3.
And if you are afraid about your writing skills, don’t if you can write and email at work, you can write a blog post. Just start and it will get better with practice.
There is also a MYTH that if you are passionate about something, there is no fear attached to it. You absolutely will be afraid of anything new. Because we don’t know, what we don’t know.

There is always fear:
- Am I going to do it right?
- Am I going to do it wrong?
- Am I going to waste time?
- Am I going to waste money?
All this thing swirling in your head every day. It’s just a part of starting something new and it’s part of any creative process.
What you don’t want fear to do is allow you to resist moving forward, because that’s when stagnation, that filling stuck and not making a decision at all, comes into play.
Do You Know Where You Want to Be This Time Next Year?
A year from now are you going to look back and regret not doing what you want to do, YES or NO?
And if the answer is – YES
Then you should definitely try IT.
Pursue IT.
Try it and see if it’s something you want to keep doing, test it out, or make it happen.
There is nothing worse than not doing the thing you really wanted to do because you are afraid or scared. Because you think people will make fun of you.
Change Your Mindset
Fear keeping you small. You are afraid to do anything, and you are just staying in the same spot. You feel stagnant, in your own head.
Change your mindset. Take that fear out of the way.
Use transitional words to overcome fear.
EXAMPLE: I am motivated, interested, and aware that I want to be a blog writer.
Open to the idea that I can start a blog – instead of I am scared to death.
I am learning to be able to write in a blog – instead of I am never going to do this.
“If you really want to do this, you need to get your thoughts in order. Think about what kind of felling you would need to start and ask yourself what you need to think to have that feeling. Starting is so much more important than finishing.” – Suzy Rosenstein suggests.
Our lives look completely different than the millennial who still lives at home or the mommy blogger with a huge audience. Our lives are complex and most of us juggle jobs as well as aging parents and those aforementioned millennials that still rely on our financial support. We are being pulled in fifty different directions.
This is a goldmine of experience to share and untouched blog topics. ?
MY FINAL TIP: Have fun blogging. Having a blog is a great thing to fill your time and besides how else will you remember what you did from one year to another?
It’s not so easy to balance our lives and blog. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Blog when you can but be super focused and intentional when you do.
