If I work at computer during the day, I wear SUMMERGLO blue light computer glasses and around 6 p.m., I switch to SLEEP+ blue light blocking glasses.
It’s all started with a podcast (Almost 30), that my daughter and I listened to. On this podcast, Andy Mant founder of BON CHARGE (formerly Blu Blox) was explaining how blue light from artificial sources affects our sleep, weight, and mood.
Been health-conscious family and having problem in all three areas we jump to an opportunity to check the benefits of blue light glasses for ourselves.
My daughter purchases SUMMERGLO BON CHARGE glasses right away. I on the other hand was hesitant to part with $150.00 CND dollars and purchased FIEYOLD blue light blocking glasses from Amazon.

What is blue light?
The sunlight contains different colors of light, we can see them in the rainbow. 🌈 When all of these colors combined, they form what we call white light.
- Each color has a different amount of energy.
- Red, orange and yellow is low energy.
- Purple, BLUE, and green are high energy.
The highest energy light is often called blue-violet light or blue light.

🌞 The biggest amount of blue light produced by the sun (100,000 lux) and only 30 lux by cell phone, and 100 lux by LED light bulbs.
LIGHT INTENSITY
| Table Lamp | 20 lux |
| Cell phone | 30 – 40 lux |
| Indoor lighting | 100 lux |
| Sunlight on a cloudy day | 1,000 lux |
| Sunlight on a clear day | 100,000 lux |
| Light before bedtime(moonlight) | 1 lux |
If a cell phone produces only 40 lux compare to 100,000 why is it so bad? Is it bad?
The short answer is NO. Blue light from cell phones doesn’t damage your eyes. You do cause digital eye strain and headache because you look at the screen for a long period of time without blinking.

What to Look for When Buying Blue Light Glasses
Below is a list of what to look for when buying blue light computer glasses:
- What color does the lens reflect?
- What percentage of blue light does the lens filter?
- Do they distort color perception?
- Where were the blue light computer glasses made?
- How stylish are the frames?
- What frequencies of blue light do the computer glasses filter?
Let us take a look at each of these individually.
BON CHARGE VS FEIYOLD Blue Light COMPUTER Glasses: HOW MUCH BLUE LIGHT THEY FILTER?
When you work at the computer the whole day especially away from natural lite, like an office, for example, you start to feel digital eyestrain. You may experience symptoms such as dry eyes, watery eyes, headache, stiff neck, or fatigue.
👍 THE BEST computer glasses are the once that filters down a SMALL AMOUNT OF blue light.
👎 THE WORST computer glasses are the once that FILTER DOWN VIOLET or green light, these are not good as damaging light found in computer screen is blue light.
You can tell the difference by looking at the light they reflect back at you when you look at the lance.
How Much Blue Light High Quality Computer Glasses Should Block?
Clear lenses with a blue light coating can block between 5% and 40% of the blue light spectrum that can affect your eyes. The Standard is 20%.
“Our circadian rhythms need blue light during the day to optimize hormone production. If we filter too much blue light during the day we will damage our hormones and disrupt our body clocks. 30% is the sweet spot for most.” – Andy Mant
The blue light that damages the eyes spikes at 440nm, don’t worry about the technical side of this, just be aware that most clear computer glasses do not target this wavelength of blue light.
I can’t test the wavelength of light, but you can see from the videos below, that the most popular Feiyold Amazon glasses MAYBE filter 5% of blue light. BluBlox glasses are the winner in this category.

BluBlox blue lite computer glasses filter blue light and are considered a great option for blue light computer glasses for daytime use.
It was hard to test BluBlox SummerGLO glasses because of the yellow lenses, but on Amazon Fieyold you can see violet reflection.

Where the glasses were manufactured will often be a good indicator of quality. If glasses manufactured in China with no QC process, you are running the risk of gating cheap materials, sub-standards lenses, and often faulty frames.
I am not saying that all glasses made in China are bad, NOT at all. It’s just you never know what you will get.

Frequently Ask Questions
Will glasses break easily?
As with all glasses, normal usage is the key. Glasses come with protective sleeve to prevent scratches. If you need to carry glasses in your purse, use a protective case.
Can you wear these all day without headache?
Natural light from the sun is beneficial to us so when we go outside it’s important not to wear blue light blocking glasses. Wear the only when working with LED back lit digital device.
You can wear computer glasses in the evening to help with digital eyestrain, but they will not improve your sleep. For improving sleep, you need an amber or red lens or blue-light-blocking glasses such as Sleep+.
Will blue light glasses block UVA and UVB light?
No. There is no UV light emitted from LED back lit digital device or office light. If you are looking at blue-light-blocking glasses, you don’t need to worry about whether they block UV light.
